Winter Flowering Plants Exhibition: An excellent event for Christmas
***********************************************************

Flower lovers will have a good place to go this Christmas: the thematic exhibition on winter flowering plants is now being held at the Forsgate Conservatory in Hong Kong Park, managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). Members of the public can enjoy an array of winter flowering plants in a peaceful refuge from bustling celebratory activities.

The Exhibition on Winter Flowering Plants showcases various common species of winter flowering plants, along with display boards on Common Winter Flowering Plants with information on eight species, including kalanchoe, hyacinth and New Guinea impatiens.

Through the display boards' text and pictures, visitors can learn more about the characteristics, growing environment and blossoming period of various winter flowering plants. For example, in winter kalanchoe undergoes a unique photosynthesis process during which its leaf stomata remain closed in daytime but open at night to facilitate the storage of oxygen. And hyacinths, known for their charming form, can be used in perfume due to their delightful fragrance.

In addition, there will be photo-taking points at the exhibition venue where visitors can take pictures in a garden full of beautiful blooms and colours. Flower lovers should not miss this opportunity.

Members of the public are welcome to visit the exhibition at the Display Plant House of the Forsgate Conservatory, Hong Kong Park, Cotton Tree Drive, Central, from now until January 31, 2015. The exhibition is open from 9am to 5pm daily including public holidays, and admission is free. For details of the exhibition, please browse the LCSD website (www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/parks/hkp/news/flowering_plants.html). For enquiries, please call 2521 5059.

Apart from visiting the Exhibition on Winter Flowering Plants, members of the public can also tour different facilities in Hong Kong Park like the Aviary, Olympic Square and Vantage Point. They can relax in this retreat, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, while broadening their floral horizons during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
