Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine at the airport (with photo)

The arrested male arrived at Hong Kong from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil via Dubai yesterday afternoon. During Customs clearance, Customs officers spotted suspicious X-ray images inside his suitcase. Upon thorough examination, a total of 3 slabs of suspected cocaine weighed of about 2.1 kilograms was found concealed inside the false compartments of the suitcase and a backpack placed inside the suitcase.
The arrested male, aged 21 and claimed to be unemployed, was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (July 16).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
