Hong Kong Customs detects suspected case of smuggling vehicle parts at Man Kam To Control Point (with photo)

Customs officers intercepted an outgoing light goods vehicle for Customs clearance at Man Kam To Control Point yesterday. During inspection, officers found the vehicle parts concealed inside engine compartment and cargo compartment of the vehicle. Later, Customs Officers further seized a batch of vehicle parts inside a light goods vehicle at a car park in Sheung Shui. The 51-year-old male driver was arrested. He was charged with attempting to export unmanifested cargo and will appear at Fanling Magistrates' Courts on August 19.
Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for attempting to export unmanifested cargo is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
