Labour Department's response to media enquiries on Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund

In response to media enquiries about the payment by the Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund (PWIF) of the shortfall in ex gratia payment on severance payment to claimants, a spokesman for the Labour Department today (October 31) gave the following reply:

Any claim from past applicants against the PWIF Board in connection with the judgment of the Court of Final Appeal (CFA) regarding the method of calculation of ex gratia payment on severance payment under the PWIF will be processed on a case-by-case basis, based on the CFA’s interpretation of the relevant provisions and having regard to the relevant information provided by the applicants.
