Retailers fined for supplying unsafe laser pointers
***************************************************
Customs officers earlier conducted a test-buy operation on two models of laser pointer from two retailers for safety testing. The test results revealed that the two models were not equipped with the safety device components required under the standard of the International Electrotechnical Commission, such as a warning device, beam stop and attenuator. Both models were also marked with a warning with respect to the use in English only. In addition, one model was found to have a false claim on its class of laser product.
