Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

Schindler Lifts (Hong Kong) Limited and Holake (HK) Limited were fined $210,000 and $35,000 respectively at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (December 29) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on February 4, 2016, at a construction site in Sham Shui Po. A worker while working inside a lift shaft was struck by the descending counterweight of a lift and fell to the lift shaft pit and sustained fatal injuries.
