Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

Lik Feng Air Conditioner & Engineering Company Limited and Key Union Engineering Limited were fined $185,000 and $175,000 respectively at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (January 10) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on October 26, 2015, at a construction site in Causeway Bay. A worker, while erecting truss-out bamboo scaffolds at the external wall of the building, fell some 36 metres to the ground and sustained fatal injury.
