Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled smartphones (with photo)

Customs officers intercepted an unladen outgoing lorry at Lok Ma Chau Control Point yesterday evening and seized 334 smartphones concealed inside the false compartments of two battery boxes. The 44-year-old male driver was arrested. Investigation is ongoing. The arrested man has been released on bail pending further investigation.
Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
