Museum of Coastal Defence hosts "Braving Untold Dangers: War Correspondents" exhibition (with photos)

     The Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence is currently holding the "Braving Untold Dangers: War Correspondents" exhibition, with about 30 sets of exhibits including equipment used by local and foreign war correspondents and valuable news reports, images and footage. Visitors to the exhibition will gain a better understanding of the dangers war correspondents face working on battlefield front lines, as well as the devastation that war brings to communities and nations.

     The exhibition outlines the emergence of war correspondents and their coverage of various wars including the Crimean War, the First Sino-Japanese War, the two World Wars and the Vietnam War. It also shows how local journalists covered hostilities in various regions, enabling visitors to learn more about the efforts of devoted war correspondents, to better understand the cruelty and brutality of war, and to reflect on how precious peace is.
  
     Highlight exhibits include a Leica I camera which was used by journalists during World War II; a protective suit and mask worn by a Hong Kong reporter during the Iraq War in 2003, and helmets and bulletproof vests worn by journalists in war zones. Valuable photos including “The Terror of War”, a series of out-of-focus pictures taken among soldiers, are also on display.

     The exhibition, which runs until January 31, 2018, is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence.
