Hong Kong International Tax Free Wholesale Limited failed to pay an employee wages in lieu of notice of about $6,800 within seven days after the termination of employment and a sum of about $14,600 awarded by the LT within 14 days subsequent to the payment date specified in the LT award. The director concerned was convicted for his consent, connivance or neglect in the above offences.
"The ruling helps disseminate a strong message to all employers and responsible officers of companies that they have to pay employees wages in lieu of notice within the time limit in accordance with the EO and LT awarded sums according to the terms of the awards issued by the LT," a spokesman for the LD said.
"We do not tolerate the above offences and will continue to make dedicated efforts in enforcing the EO and safeguarding employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
