Grading of beach water quality released

Under the present grading system, beaches are classified into four grades according to the geometric mean of the E coli counts on the five most recent sampling occasions. Grade 4 is assigned to beaches whose E coli readings show abnormalities that may affect bathers' health.
Ten beaches were rated as Good (Grade 1), twenty-four as Fair (Grade 2) and four as Poor (Grade 3).
Grade 1 beaches are:

Remark *: Temporarily closed
Despite the above grading, eight gazetted beaches are temporarily closed on a precautionary basis by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department due to the spillage of palm stearin caused by a vessel collision incident in the Pearl River Estuary on August 3.
