CAD follows up on runway incursion case

     A runway incursion took place at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) this morning (September 22), in which a departing flight aborted take off after its commencement of take-off roll because another aircraft was taxiing across the same runway. No one was injured and the operation at HKIA was not affected by the incident.

     "At 8.55am today, a Hong Kong Airlines A333 airliner (flight number: HX236) from Hong Kong to Pudong, Shanghai, was preparing for take off on Runway 07R at the HKIA. Shortly after its commencement of take-off roll, the pilot concerned aborted take off after he noticed that an arriving Air Cargo Global B744 freighter aircraft (flight number: CW831) was crossing the same runway. According to the preliminary information, the closest distance of the two aircraft in the incident was over 1 000 meters. Subsequently, the A333 airliner departed for Pudong as planned," a spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) said.

     This runway incursion incident is being investigated by the CAD.
