Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled gold (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (October 16) seized 15 pieces of suspected smuggled gold weighing about 15 kilograms in total with an estimated market value of about $5 million at Lok Ma Chau Control Point.

     Customs officers yesterday intercepted an incoming private car at Lok Ma Chau Control Point for inspection and seized the batch of suspected smuggled gold on board the vehicle. The 55-year-old male driver was arrested. Investigation is ongoing.

     Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
