Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled gold (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (December 10) seized 11 pieces of suspected smuggled gold weighing about 11 kilograms in total with an estimated market value of about $3.4 million at Lok Ma Chau Control Point.

     Customs officers yesterday intercepted an incoming private car at Lok Ma Chau Control Point for inspection and seized the batch of suspected smuggled gold inside the vehicle and from the driver. The 57-year-old male driver was arrested.

     Investigation is ongoing.

     Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
