Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected prohibited weapons (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (January 12) seized about 50 000 knives of which the blade is exposed by a spring, suspected to be prohibited weapons, from a container at the Customs Cargo Examination Compound, River Trade Terminal, Tuen Mun. The estimated market value of the seizure was about $2 million.

     Through risk assessment, Customs officers inspected a 20-foot container arriving in Hong Kong from Huangpu, Guangdong Province, destined for the United States of America. Upon inspection, Customs officers found the suspected prohibited weapons in the container.

     Investigation is ongoing.

     Under the Weapons Ordinance, any person found guilty of possessing any prohibited weapon is liable to a maximum fine of $10,000 and imprisonment for three years.
