Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

Aztogether Decoration Engineering Co., Limited and Leung Sum Kee Et Al Framework, Pipework and Demolish Engineering Limited were fined $91,000 on December 9 and $106,000 today (December 16) respectively at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on December 13, 2018, in Sham Shui Po. While a scaffolder was dismantling a truss-out bamboo scaffold at the 5/F level of the external wall of a residential building, he fell to the flat roof of an adjacent building. He sustained severe bodily injuries and passed away on the same day.
