Employer and occupier fined for violation of safety legislation

Everford Property Management and Agency Limited and Answer Consultants Limited were fined $70,000 and $40,000 respectively at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (August 18) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on August 10, 2019, at a shopping mart in Yuen Long. While a security guard was manually closing a metal horizontal sliding gate at the entrance of the shopping mart, a leaf of the gate suddenly toppled and pressed onto her. She was sent to hospital and died on the same day.
