Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

     Yat Keung Engineering Company Limited was fined $76,000 at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today (December 10) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on October 8, 2019, at a building construction site in Tuen Mun. While a lift worker was carrying out lift installation work in a lift pit, the lift car suddenly descended and trapped him between the lift car and a working platform. The worker sustained severe injuries and passed away on the same day.
