Secretary for Home Affairs visits Kai Tak Sports Park site (with photos)

     The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Caspar Tsui, visited the Kai Tak Sports Park site today (April 27). Accompanied by the Commissioner for Sports, Mr Yeung Tak-keung, and representatives of Kai Tak Sports Park Ltd, Mr Tsui viewed the latest works progress of the Sports Park. Currently, the piling works of the project have largely been completed while the substructure, basement and superstructure works are under way. The mega steel trusses for the Main Stadium will be delivered from Mainland China to the construction site by water from the third quarter of this year onwards for installation.

     "Given the current construction progress, we envisage that the construction of Kai Tak Sports Park will be completed in the second half of 2023. It will then provide major international sports facilities for Hong Kong to support the policy objectives in promoting sports in the community, supporting elite sports development and promoting Hong Kong as a centre for major international sports events," Mr Tsui said.

     The novel design of the Main Stadium of Kai Tak Sports Park is inspired by the theme "Pearl of the Orient". The gigantic curtain wall at the southern part will provide the Stadium with exceptional views of Victoria Harbour. With a huge retractable roof, it will provide a world-class venue accommodating 50 000 spectators for sports competitions and performances in any weather. In addition to the Main Stadium, Kai Tak Sports Park will also include a 10 000-seat Indoor Sports Centre, a 5 000-seat Public Sports Ground, a vibrant harbourfront promenade, a variety of retail and dining choices, diverse public spaces and children's play facilities. Kai Tak Sports Park, upon completion, will become a good destination for the public to exercise and relax.
