Peak Tramway (Safety) (Amendment) Regulation 2018 (Commencement) Notice gazetted

     The Peak Tramway (Safety) (Amendment) Regulation 2018 (Commencement) Notice (the Commencement Notice) was gazetted today (July 9), in which the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development has appointed December 17, 2021, as the commencement date for the increase of the maximum number of passengers of a tramcar of the peak tramway to 210.

     The Peak Tramways Company Limited is implementing an upgrading plan and carrying out relevant construction works. Apart from the increase in the carrying capacity of new tramcars to 210 passengers, the plan also includes construction of a covered, temperature-controlled queuing and waiting area with a capacity of about 1 300 passengers at the lower terminus at Garden Road, renovation of the upper terminus at the Peak Tower, etc, to enhance services of the peak tramway and its attractiveness as an important tourism and recreational facility.

     The Commencement Notice will be tabled at the Legislative Council for negative vetting on July 14, 2021.
