In his keynote speech, the Director-General of the London ETO, Mr Gilford Law provided some updates of Hong Kong and presented various opportunities ahead of the city. He outlined that Hong Kong managed to restore public order after the social unrest in second half of 2019 while safeguarding the rule of law and judicial independence, and that its economy was recovering from the pandemic.
Mr Law also said, "Looking beyond the uncertainties of the pandemic, ample business opportunities lie ahead of us. Specifically, the National 14th Five-Year Plan expressly supports Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre, an international trade centre as well as an international innovation and technology hub, to name but a few." With illustration of various development initiatives and examples, he welcomed Scottish businesses to make good use of these fascinating opportunities.
Ms Daisy Ip, Director of the UK, Nordics and Ireland of the HKTDC took the opportunity at the reception to introduce to the attendees the latest developments that Hong Kong is pursuing to enhance its role as an international trade centre.
About 60 participants including the business community, academics and research sector, joined the reception.
