SWD thanks Mainland temporary contract care workers
***************************************************
To fight against the fifth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic, the SWD urgently employed 762 Mainland temporary contract care workers on a three-month contract in March 2022. Upon completion of training, they were deployed by the SWD to holding centres or isolation facilities, residential care homes for the elderly or residential care homes for persons with disabilities to assist in taking care of elderly persons and persons with disabilities.
An SWD spokesman thanked the Mainland care workers for coming from afar to Hong Kong while the local pandemic situation was serious, to provide care services for elderly persons and persons with disabilities, as well as relief for the manpower shortage in local RCHs. The SWD also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the training institutes which had quickly provided training programmes for the care workers, namely the Haven of Hope Professional Training Institute of Haven of Hope Christian Service, Caritas Institute of Community Education, Hong Kong Institute of Gerontology and Yan Oi Tong Jockey Club Training Centre.
Some care workers have joined the local care sector upon completion of their contracts. Among the 762 care workers, 17 have been employed by local RCHs under the Supplementary Labour Scheme to work in Hong Kong.
