Government receives preliminary report on Tsuen Wan Line train incident from MTR Corporation Limited

      In relation to the MTR Tsuen Wan Line train incident on November 13, the Government requested the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a preliminary report within three days (i.e. today) and a detailed report within two months (i.e. no later than January 12 next year) respectively of the incident. The Government received today (November 16) the preliminary report submitted by MTRCL to the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.

     A spokesperson for the Transport and Logistics Bureau (TLB) said, "The preliminary report gave an account of the incident, initial findings on its cause, and MTRCL's immediate incident handling and future follow up work. The Government is examining the report. Regarding incident handling, the TLB has requested MTRCL to review the relevant arrangements immediately to ensure proper handling of incidents and protect passenger safety."

     MTRCL has set up an investigation panel to conduct detailed investigation to identify the root cause of the incident. Relevant government departments will also take part in the investigation.

     The spokesperson said that railway safety is of utmost importance and MTRCL is duty-bound to provide safe and reliable railway services. MTRCL needs to conduct a comprehensive, in-depth and thorough investigation into the incident. Besides the cause of the incident, the detailed report should also include comprehensive improvement measures and implementation plan to ensure the safety and reliability of the railway system and prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
