SCED to visit Vietnam

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, will depart for a visit to Hanoi, Vietnam, tomorrow (January 7) afternoon to forge closer economic and trade ties between Hong Kong and Vietnam, and provide the Vietnamese business sector an update on Hong Kong's new initiatives to attract enterprises and investments.

     During his stay in Hanoi, Mr Yau will meet with senior government officials of Vietnam and business leaders to have exchanges on economic and trade co-operation issues. He will also visit an industrial park to keep abreast of the latest industrial development in Vietnam. In addition, he will attend a business seminar and luncheon to promote Hong Kong's business advantages and opportunities as well as the vast potential of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area market, with a view to fostering investment co-operation between Hong Kong and Vietnam.

     Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong in the evening on January 10. The Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Dr Bernard Chan, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development during Mr Yau's absence.
