Highlights of the Year 2023-24

Community Support Services for the Elderly

  • Elderly Centre Services
    Since October 2023, the service scope of these centres has expanded to include retirement planning, the promotion of gerontechnology, and more talks and workshops to promote healthy ageing and gerontechnology. 
  • Scheme on Living Allowance for Carers of Elderly Persons from Low-income Families
    Starting from October 2023, SWD has regularised the allowance scheme and increased the monthly allowance from $2,400 to $3,000.
  • Territory-wide Publicity Campaign “Care the Carers Campaign”
    SWD launched the territory-wide publicity campaign “Care the Carers Campaign” in 2023-24, with a kick-off ceremony on 25 September 2023.  Each year features a different theme under the three-year publicity campaign.  The first year focused on promoting the message of “Helping Carers Help Themselves”.
  • Support for Carers Project
    The Project was extended for three years starting from October 2023 with its scope expanded to cover persons with disabilities and their carers, with a view to encouraging various sectors to promote awareness and support for needy carers of elderly persons and persons with disabilities.  As at the end of March 2024, the new Project has recorded over 2 500 attendances for property management personnel training. 
  • Opportunities for the Elderly Project
    The Project subsidised social service organisations, district organisations and educational institutions, etc. to organise a wide range of programmes aimed at promoting a sense of self-worth among the elderly in the community.  In 2023-24, a total of 383 programmes were launched by various organisations, attracting over 75 000 elderly participants.
